About John

John “Frugal” Dougall has spent years fighting to keep government off Utahns’ backs and out of their pockets. Protecting and restoring the American Dream demands eliminating government overreach, limiting spending, and abolishing deficit spending. Today, Utahns are struggling to put food on their tables and roofs over their heads. They are being crushed under inflation driven by reckless federal spending and burdensome regulations.

Frugal Dougall has a long history of challenging bloated government programs that could be doing more with less or should just be eliminated. He champions cutting taxes and fiscal responsibility. Reining in a bloated federal government requires cutting spending, balancing budgets, increasing government transparency, improving performance, and eliminating pointless bureaucratic programs.  image0.jpeg

As State Auditor, Frugal Dougall is the taxpayers’ watchdog, exposing government waste, fraud, corruption, and abuse. His team pursued government officials who preyed on taxpayers. They exposed government programs that failed to follow the rules and regulations. Frugal Dougall led his team to do what many considered impossible, bringing transparency to where the money goes in public education. His audits and projects helped taxpayers hold their state and local governments accountable.

Prior to becoming State Auditor, Frugal Dougall served 10 years in the Utah House of Representatives representing northeast Utah County. He championed tax reform to keep more money in the hands of Utah families and to make Utah’s economy stronger. He increased government transparency, sponsoring the financial transparency website which provides transaction-level details by state and local government spending and sponsoring the public meeting notice website which helps taxpayers monitor their public meetings. He also fought to eliminate the periodic vehicle inspection program which wasted taxpayer time and money but didn’t improve safety on the road. He also advocated for greater educational freedom.

Frugal Dougall has a long, entrepreneurial career developing cutting-edge innovations in the technology sector, working in large companies and small start-ups, in an array of management and technical positions.
